IAMA New York City Transit Subway Conductor, AMA
AMA with a NYC subway conductor, THIS THREAD IS AMAZING . i literally read every Q+A
Q: What is standard protocol if you see non-MTA employees in the tunnels? Is it followed? Also, is there generally safe clearance for people on either side of the train?
A: Stop the train immediately and radio it in. This is taken very seriously - train operators often get nervous while operating past properly-flagged track workers, let alone someone unauthorized. Yes, non-clearance zones are clearly marked with red and white stripes. One of the first things you do in conductor training is stand in one of those little clearance holes in the wall and let a train pass, and it’s what really separates the men (and women) from the boys.
BADASS.
